Making a Story
Layered in the history of every landscape is a multitude of stories; stories about people, animals, plants, ecosystems, and geology. When we make a map, we design it to tell the stories that are most important, in ways that help people form informative, personal, and emotional connections to the land. By linking the context of a place to its map, a powerful structure is created in the imagination. This connection binds place names, stories, knowledge, and information onto a broad and textured understanding of a place, its history, and its relationships.
The Power of Iconography
The Power of Iconography
We strive to bring learning, play, and discovery into the cartographic experience. We can build interpretive and narrative elements into a map in a variety of ways. Routes, pathways, and borders can be made into raised and painted lines. Regions can be highlighted and distinguished using different painting styles. To indicate locations, 3D icons can be added into the map and further connected with informational text. Push button LEDs can also be used to link information to specific features.
